In May 2024, Noemie Olmedo graduated from Bryan High School. In the 15 months since, she has become a successful business owner.
Noemie, who participated in the Avenue Scholars program in high school, is now the proud owner of Mimi’s Florez, a home-based floral business.
“I decided to launch Mimi’s Florez because I wanted the freedom to create my own style and build close relationships with my clients. Having my own business lets me grow at my own pace and bring a more personal touch to each design,” she said.
Her love for floral design began with a simple realization: Creating beauty brings her – and others – joy.
“Every arrangement tells a story,” Noemie said. “I love turning my clients’ visions into handcrafted designs that make their moments unforgettable.”
She said she has had the chance to work on a variety of custom arrangements – for weddings, quinceañeras, birthdays, and other special events.
“I also create personalized bouquets for everyday occasions, from anniversaries to sympathy flowers. I love how each flower can express a feeling or message without words, and arranging them feels like creating art that has meaning for others,” she said.
Noemie credits Avenue Scholars with helping her build confidence and community. One of her favorite memories from her time as a Scholar was organizing a surprise pizza party for her Career Coach as a way for her and her peers to say thanks for caring.
Now, Noemie’s story comes full circle: She’ll be the featured florist for an upcoming Avenue Scholars fundraising event in November, bringing her artistry and entrepreneurial spirit back to the program that helped shape her path.
We hope to share her work in action after the event.
