Avenue Scholars is proud to welcome Elkhorn Public Schools (EPS) as our newest Education Partner.

As of the 2025-26 school year, Avenue Scholars works out of 13 Omaha-area high schools, including Elkhorn High School. Here, the program serves students from all three Elkhorn high schools: Elkhorn High, Elkhorn North, and Elkhorn South.

During this first semester working with Elkhorn Public Schools, Avenue Scholars learned right away that the administration and staff value effort and excellence. Kaily Barbre, Avenue Scholars’ Elkhorn Career Coach, has seen this firsthand. She said everyone she works with is dedicated and supportive of Scholars both inside and outside of the classroom.

“When I learned the program would be hosted at one school, with all three high schools in attendance, I was eager to begin this new endeavor,” Barbre said. “If Elkhorn is going to do something, they’re going to do it well, each and every time.”

During her class time with Scholars in the program, Barbre leads Scholars through a curriculum that includes professional skills such as resume building, workplace expectations, and more. Scholars also have the opportunity to participate in Career Awareness events at businesses across Omaha that offer a behind-the-scenes look at what it’s really like to work in these industries.

Barbre said the students she has worked with have already shown resilience and dedication. She said she appreciates their desire to grow and to achieve great things. Another benefit of the partnership has been the relationships Scholars form with each other, connections they may not have formed otherwise.

Consistency and Connection in the Classroom

“Elkhorn Public Schools is excited to partner with Avenue Scholars, as the program will provide additional learning opportunities and support for our students when they transition to post-high school experiences,” said Jadi Miller, Ed.D., assistant superintendent with the district.

“EPS believes the expertise of the Avenue Scholars program and professionals will benefit our students by allowing them to access additional resources that strengthen both their high school and post-secondary education,” she said.

As the program continues to take root in Elkhorn, Avenue Scholars is already seeing the power of connection and consistency. Barbre said she has seen students step into leadership roles within the classroom and demonstrate new knowledge and excitement about their future careers.

What’s Next for Avenue Scholars and Elkhorn?

“Watching Scholars grow has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey,” Barbre said.

In Elkhorn, as with all partner schools, the Avenue Scholars model is designed to meet students where they are, then walk with them toward where they want to go.

The team at Avenue Scholars is thrilled to have EPS on board and looks forward to the growth, opportunity, and community impact this partnership will bring.

Avenue Scholars recruits high school sophomores from our partner high schools who may be interested in careers outside of the traditional four-year college pathway. For more information on joining Avenue Scholars, visit our Get Involved page or email [email protected].
